Meet Lina Sylejmani

While in high school, Lina Sylejmani, an up-and-coming safety professional, knew she wanted to be involved in a STEM program in college. During her senior year, she began an Environmental Science class and found she really enjoyed it.

“I was really good at it!” said Lina. “I got a four on my AP exam, so in my application to college, I requested to be placed in the Environmental Science program.”

Once enrolled at the University of Houston Clear-Lake (UHCL), she worried about the job security for her program and, after speaking with a friend with a degree in the field, decided it was better to enroll in a safety and health program.

“The job prospects in the safety and health field are tremendous, and I still get to be involved in a STEM-related field.”

– Lina Sylejmanu BCSP Founation QAP/ABET Student Scholarhip Recipient

“I’ve met the most wonderful faculty and classmates, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

In 2021, Lina received the BCSP Foundation’s QAP/ABET Student Scholarship. The scholarship is a $5,000 award given to outstanding students in environmental, health, and safety programs. As a student in Occupational Health & Safety at UHCL, Lina was delighted to receive the scholarship and plans to attain her Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) designation from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) upon graduation.

“I am dedicated to obtaining my GSP after graduation and continuing to grow as a future safety professional,” announced Lina in a LinkedIn post. “I’m still a little surprised; I have never received a scholarship for academic merit before. I would like to thank all of my professors and colleagues. You all have truly inspired me to work hard as a student and never lose sight of my goals.”

The BCSP Foundation is honored to support future safety professionals like Lina in their pursuit of a degree in EHS!
