The BCSP Foundation is pleased to announce the support of Columbia Southern University (CSU) through the gift of $200,000.00. This investment of resources represents the collaboration of partners dedicated to advancing the field and is in direct support of the Foundation’s mission of “Investing to create and grow a safer global community; protecting those we serve”.
Building on a foundation of 50 years of investing in the safety profession, BCSP launched the BCSP Foundation, its formal philanthropic endeavor, in 2018. Recognizing that working together with industry partners, educators, safety professionals, and citizens to coalesce around strategic initiatives that yield measurable outcomes, we stand with a singular voice as advocates for the profession and the good of the global community. “This is a transformational moment in BCSP history. We know that it is people who make safety possible and the Foundation is a direct reflection of the commitment of the Board of Directors of BCSP to assuring the health and well-being of not only our trusted professionals but to the good of society. We are investing our resources and working with partners to make a lasting impact,” said Linda Martin, CSP, Former Board Chair, at a recent donor forum.
The Board of Trustees for the Foundation is pleased to welcome the investment by CSU and recognizes the strength of the partnership as central to the advancement of the profession. “The CSU approach to education, dedication to the student experience, and continued investment in reaching new heights through faculty development and advancing the program makes them a partner on many fronts. They are working hard, every day, to build a pipeline of qualified safety professionals to serve all sectors of society and the result is a stronger, safer, and more prosperous society” said Dr. Turnbeaugh, CSP, CAE, Former Executive Director of the BCSP Foundation.
For 25 years, Columbia Southern University has been a leader in occupational safety and health education. Taught by experienced safety experts, CSU’s Bachelor of Science in occupational safety and health is recognized by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Graduate Safety Practitioner® (GSP®) Qualified Academic Program (QAP). CSU’s occupational safety and health degree programs also meet the educational requirements mandated by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals for the Associate Safety Professional designation (ASP®) and the Certified Safety Professional designation (CSP®).
“We are thankful for this recognition and for our partnership with the BCSP Foundation,” said Robert Mayes, CSU co-founder. “Columbia Southern University is proud to share the Foundation’s goal of creating a safer global community by increasing the number of educated safety professionals in the field. Together, we will continue to advance the safety industry through professional development and education.” CSU’s partnership with the BCSP Foundation reflects its deep roots in occupational safety and health education. In 1993, CSU founder Robert G. Mayes worked to fill an industry void by creating training programs for safety and environmental managers. This commitment to educate and advance the field of occupational safety and health ultimately set the academic foundation for the university. To this day, CSU continues to provide improved training and learning to advance the safety profession.
The BCSP Foundation, working in concert with BCSP, is dedicated to advancing the field through strategic investment in Professional Advancement, Innovation and Research, and the Youth Safety Institute.
