Industrial Hygiene

Research (Master’s Thesis) Grant
Abas Shkembi, B.S., is a Research Associate and first-year M.S. student in Industrial Hygiene at the University of Michigan School of Public Health Department of Environmental Health Sciences. Abas has a B.S. in Statistics and enjoys integrating novel statistical and machine learning techniques with his OHS research. His research interests include noise exposure, hearing conservation, and occupational and environmental justice.

Research (Early Stage Funding) Grant
Dr. Obeng-Gyasi’s research uses biostatistics, epidemiology, molecular biology, and analytical chemistry techniques to investigate the effects of environmental toxicants on the environment and populations.

Pilot Fatigue

Research (Doctoral Dissertation) Grant
Josh Becker is a Ph.D. candidate at Capitol Technology University majoring in Occupational Safety and Health. His dissertation is titled: Pilot Fatigue in the Aviation Sector and its Effects on Human Factors: Uncovering the Link Between Departure Time Within a Duty Day and Accident Rate. Within his research protocol, he examines the direct and indirect effect that pilot fatigue, measured by departure time within a pilot’s flight duty period, has on the human factors and, more specifically, the association between accident prevalence and departure time in this period.

Risk Perceptions of Hispanic and Latinx Immigrant Workers

Research (Doctoral Dissertation) Grant
Matt Law is a Doctor of Public Health Student at Walden University and serves as Manager, Safety Strategy at W. W. Grainger, Inc. He also serves as an Environmental Health Officer, Lieutenant, in the United States Navy Reserve. His capstone doctoral study currently explores the risk perceptions of Hispanic and Latinx immigrant workers in construction in Central Florida.
